After looking at a multitude of GPS models and manufacturers, I settled on the Garmin nuvi 255w for my first auto GPS purchase. I couldn't be happier. I wasn't interested in Bluetooth nor mpeg (my car has both) nor traffic updates (the city I live in is not included on those available). This unit is perfect for me.
The connection is fast, the screen is exceptional, the voice commands are clear and distinct, charging time and battery life are quite good, and map accuracy seems more than acceptable. (However, if you want to test it and put in an address that you drive to frequently, do not be surprised if the Garmin chooses a different route that may take more time than the one you usually travel.)
At first, I had a difficult time downloading the free map update, but an email to Garmin quickly resolved the matter.
